At Wheeling High School, Ebony Club—also known as the Black Student Union—is a welcoming and inclusive space for students of all backgrounds to come together and celebrate Black culture, history, and achievements. Our goal is to create a sense of community and educate others about the richness of the African diaspora. We encourage students of all races and ethnicities to join us as we learn, grow, and uplift one another.
February is Black History Month, a time dedicated to recognizing the contributions and resilience of Black individuals throughout history. At Wheeling High School, the Ebony Club has planned exciting activities to celebrate this important month.
Every day during Black History Month, we will play music over the school speakers from iconic Black artists across different genres, showcasing the influence of Black musicians in the world of music. We will also have games throughout the first week of February and a bake sale on the February 7th.
We’re also encouraging students to show their support and school spirit through our BHM Dress Days: Wear black every Monday (symbolizes the people and our strength), Wear red ( symbolizes the bloodshed) or green ( symbolizes the rich land ) every Wednesday for a chance to win a prize!!These colors are significant because they are featured in the Pan-African flag.
To celebrate the diversity within the African diaspora, Ebony Club will proudly represent Nigeria and Ghana at the Display of Cultures event on February 14. We invite everyone to visit our table to learn more about African history, traditions, and customs. This is a fantastic opportunity to engage with and appreciate the beauty of African heritage through cultural displays, artifacts, and meaningful discussions.
We hope to see you there as we honor and uplift Black culture and history together! Join us in making this Black History Month one to remember. For more information on how to get involved with Ebony Club, feel free to reach out or attend one of our meetings (every other Tuesday) . Let’s celebrate, educate, and unite!
