Do you like writing, telling stories or writing poetry? Did you know that there is an elective class for creative writing for juniors and seniors? Wheeling has brought back this class recently and Ms. Pacyk is teaching it. I am taking this class this year and learning a lot that I didn’t know about writing.
The first thing we learned is how to create our play by working in groups and then act out the play. You have to find a theme that everyone agrees on, then think of the storyline, after that you have to make your characters, write the story and add stage directions. After all this is done you get to act out the play in front of the class.
The second thing we learned was how to write a personal narrative. Ms Pacyk would give us a slide that had a question on it and we had to answer it with a story from our life. For example we had to think of a funny memory and a time that we told a lie. Then we picked one of the things we wrote about and wrote a more detailed story with the prompt. Ms Pacyk helps you along the way and teaches how to be creative and capture the audience in writing.
The next thing we learned was poems. You learn different types of poetry for exapmle: an ode to, where i’m from and a poem about one of your parents and how to write them. One interesting fact that I learned about poetry is that it doesn’t have to rhyme. The last thing we are learning about is slam poetry which is spoken word poetry. This type of poetry was started in Chicago in the 1980’s. This is like a battle between people telling their poetry.
If you want to become a writer you are going to have to read a lot and write so your imagination starts up with something. Just have fun writing and don’t give up. If you are interested in this class you can talk to Ms Pacyk or your counselor..
