October is Italian heritage month, so Mrs. Bonasera set her WHS Italian week for October 23-27. Italian week at Wheeling brings a lot of spirit to students and teachers. Students in the Italian program and club set up in the main hallway and sell Italian food all week. Every day is something different. Monday were Caffè sales with biscotti, Tuesday was Italian Food (panini,
arancini, focaccia, pasta salad), Wednesday was a Bake Sale (tiramisu and cannoli) and Thursday Gelato was sold. On Friday the Italian students did a Staff Lunch Order from Avanti cafe in Mount Prospect. The best seller was on Thursday with the Gelato. In the future, the Italian program would like to have a Christmas sale or “Natale Sale” in italiano. They would sell mini panetto, hot chocolate and maybe even tiramisu. Students enjoy explaining Italian culture through food and traditions and by selling Italian food. This is a great way for Wheeling high school students to learn more about Italian culture. Italian
week is a very cultural event and it’s for students to remember throughout the years. “The whole reason I do this is so that students know that there’s an Italian program here!” -says Prof Bonasera.
